Who we are
Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam. The world is one family.
We are a group of learners from different disciplines who came together to explore one question: how did everything, from the first atoms to the device you are reading this on, come to be? Big History is the framework that lets a physicist, a biologist and a historian tell one continuous story, and it is the framework we use to teach it.
Our aim is simple to state and hard to do: make the best possible science education on this story available to any curious student, anywhere, whatever their starting point. We write for a fourteen-year-old first and add depth for everyone else.
Why 13.8 billion years
Most of what we learn arrives in pieces: a chemistry chapter here, a history unit there. Big History is the map that shows where each piece sits. It begins with space and time themselves and follows the growth of complexity through eight thresholds: the first stars, the first elements, planets, life, human minds, farming and the modern world. Once you can place yourself on that map, every new thing you learn has somewhere to go.
It also tells a story worth knowing for its own sake: that every living thing on Earth shares one ancestor, that our species is a very recent arrival, and that people of every nation and creed are characters in the same short final chapter.
How every lesson is checked
- Drafting. Lessons are researched and drafted with the help of AI writing tools and then rewritten by a person until they sound like a teacher.
- Claim list. Every factual claim is pulled out, labelled established, active research or open question, and tied to a source: a textbook, a review paper, or an agency dataset. Anything that cannot be sourced is cut.
- Review. A reviewer from the relevant discipline signs off before a lesson is marked published. Lessons in draft or review say so at the top.
- Corrections. Mistakes are fixed in public, with the date and what changed. If you find one, tell us.
The videos
Each lesson is also a video. Narration is recorded by a member of the team. Diagrams and animations are rendered from code so that every curve and number is exact. A small number of atmospheric shots are generated with AI tools and are disclosed as such. Real imagery comes from NASA, ESA, ESO and other agencies, with credit.
